Yoga Niche- Affiliate Report

Currently we are developing a new blog that is focusing on the Yoga and Health niche. We have a professional yoga teacher talking about Yoga for health, eating well and eastern spirituality. the content is coming along and the links starting to roll in. Today I had a bit of a harrowing experience trying to find the right affiliate programs to advertise on the blog. By the end of the day, I was throughly frustrated and wished I could just find them all in one place
- First I looked at my existing programs, CJ and Hydra to see what they had
- Then I did basic Google Search for "Yoga Affiliate Programs"
- Sifting through the crap, I came up with 5 programs to investigate
- Yoga.com
- Healthandyoga.com
- Wailana.com
- Yogayak.com
- Hydra - Freebie Yoga Mat giveaway
- Lets now go through each one of these programs along with the pros and cons of attracting afilliate advertiser. (Advertisers I hope you are listening
Yoga.com
- PROS
- They win the gold medal for the easiest signup page. One page a few lines and CLICK. You are an affiliate
- Very nice storefront, site with lots of yoga related content and well organized
- Seems to be an established brand
- CONS
- Get some more banners man
- 4% commission (or 8% store credit) give me a break. Program went in the can after saw this. Great site, but they obviously aren't into affiliate marketing.
This looks like the type of online store that is run as part of a niche empire of lots of little online stores. Why do I say this
- Its contrived and professional
- There is little attention to content or fresh updating. The owner probably doesn't know much about yoga except that the niche makes him money, as the products are a bit mis-matched and disorganized. there is even a chance that it is just a drop-ship site
- They give you %15-%20 commission so they obviously have been around and know how to motivate affiliates.
Other things to note
- Easy Signup
- Refer an affiliate program.
- Some banners and categories were severely out of date while others were new and fresh.
-
They pay through PAYPAL!!!!! ;-) - Overall it looks ok. I am going to give them a try.
This is the type of site that I want to be representing. They work through shareasale.com which has a cumbersome signup process that requires you to:
- have an email address at the domain you are promoting
- submit tax forms
- for overseas affiliate get paid by check
- Click though 6 different pages to complete your signup.
Anyways, that is life, and shareasale has lots of other store i can now work with. This is the type of store that I want to be promoting for the following reasons
- Wai Lana seems to be an established Yoga brand and personality. People will click through just by brand recognition.
- %15-20 commissions - Yeah!
- Beautiful store design, makes you feel like you are in a tropical garden than an commercial mart.
I am still waiting to get approved at time of published, so I will get back to you on the status
- Unique and interesting site that sells an online subscriptions to Yoga Videos and courses
- Probably the best and most useful to my blog readers. I would be proud to send them here
- Smooth Affiliate management software by PostAffiliatePro. Probably the best self-managed program you can use. A few years ago we set up our own affiliate site and at $99 PostAffiliatePro proved to be better than a $500 competitor Makes life very easy.
- Nice animated banners.
- Payments by Paypal - Yippie
- Recurring Subscription Payments and Subscriptions
You have to hand it to Hydra, they always have something interesting. A quick search on Yoga with them came up with a CPA of 1.25 to fill out a form and win a free Wai Lana Yoga mat. Very smart. This will be a nice cash cow to put in the rotation. Nough said.
The Yoga Affiliate Report Conclusion
That all being said. The traits in an affiliate program that makes our lives easier are as follows
- Easy and Fast Signup Please
- Nice big commissions, nice long cookies
- Good looking banners - Many affiliates (especially in yoga) want to put something nice on their site
- Payment by Paypal. I know for bigger sites this is not always possible, but the fact of the matter is that there is some little guy in Bangladesh who will promote the pants off of your site if he can get paid by paypal and wont bother if he has to do tax forms and wait 3 months for checks to clear (yes that is sometimes how long it takes a US drawn check to clear in 3rd world countries)
- Get to it.
