Taming The Hydra with CPA
A few days ago we reviewed a number of Yoga affiliate programs to discover what makes a successful affiliate program. One of the programs we discussed was a CPA offered by Hydra Network out of Beverly Hills California.
Hydra is unique in the fact that they are exclusively a CPA(Cost per action) Network. In its most pure form, CPA means that the user I refer completes some action usually entering an email address or filling out a form for me to get my payment.
For instance, Hydra Networks has a number of programs that will pay you approximately $1.20-$1.30 simply for a user with a USA IP address entering their email address. The intensive of these programs is a giveaway for the user. For instance, the Creative (Ad) will say ‘Free iPhone’ or ‘Free $250 gift certificate.’ etc…. The user just has to click through your link, goto the site, enter their email and then you get paid. Not bad
There are a few catches to this system that we must discuss.
- As we stated before, most programs are targeted to US IP addresses, there are others for UK or Western European IP’s as well. This means if you get a clickthrough from anybody outside the US, you do not get credit for the lead. This can be solved via IP targeting for your promotions.
- Different advertisers have different rules that you must follow. Some only allow targeted email campaigns, others will allow PPC Play or banner advertisements. Some allow incentives, some do not. You have to review the rules of each Hydra Network campaign before you signup
- Fraud is rampant in this part of the industry, so expect to have your clicks and payments throughly reviewed for natural patterns of use including the average amount of users that follow through after the initial signup.
- For example lets say that Hydra has statistics from 1 million signups that show that typically %20 of the customers that enter their email initially will eventually follow through with the full program and purchase something or complete some other action. Well if you refer 10,000 users and get paid for all of them and only %2 of them actually follow through, then Hydra will be able to detect that something is amiss with your clicks and you will go in for a review
- However, this is nothing to be worried about if you are playing honest because you will be referring ‘natural’ users who will most likely behave according to natural patterns and thus everything will be smooth.
As for for how to target your promotions, there are a number of methods that work
- Pay Per Click - So lets say that the campaign you are working on is to give away a free Xbox. Every User that goes to the page and enters an email address, gets you paid $1.40. You have also determined that with targeted traffic that Approx %50 of users that hit your landing page will follow through and enter their email address. This means that more or less you are getting paid $0.70 per unique visitor that you send based on long term statistics. You would get into one of your PPC accounts with this number in mind and set all your targeted bids to a level that allows you decent profit.
- You can set your bid at $0.40 and end up making $0.30 for each user that clicks through.
For this example, you would not only target the keyword ‘XBox’ which probably has ridiculously high bids to get noticed, but also a series of long tail keywords, perhaps the names of some of the games or of other gaming systems.

- Direct Email marketing- Many of the CPA Advertisers will require you to use an email campaign to participate. I will save the details of email marketing for another post, but if you have directed email lists then you are in a very good position.
- Content Site - You would do an old fashion content site and use every trick in the book to bring in Organic SERPs.
HOWEVER - All these methods work, HOWEVER, these are commonly known and after you get involved you will find yourself with very very stiff competition from every other Joe, John and Shoe trying to do the same thing. The secret to wealth on the internet is originality and creativity. To NOT do what the other guy is doing.
I have discovered 2 methods that I started implementing 2 weeks ago that are bringing me an average of $1100 a day in gross profit.
Methods One - Average $1000 Revenue and $400 expenses per day for a total profit of $600 a day. Approximate setup time - 3-5 hours and 1 hour a day of maintenance. This involves leveraging other peoples work to get your ads shown at well below market rates for what you are going to be paid. It works so well that I am afraid to give out this secret as it is so simple. Once I tell you, you will be hitting your head on the wall that you didn’t think of this first.
Method Two - This involves leveraging a popular site on the internet to get your link up in a place where it can get 100,000’s of impressions a day via highly targeting. Before you guess what it is,I will tell you to guess again as it is not what you think. Setup time is very labor intensive with my team working about 4-6 hours a day to bring in about $500 a day in PROFIT with NO Expenses. You need to keep working to stay in the $$$, but for $500 a day I don’t hear many complaints.
I will be very happy to share these methods with you but I ask one thing of you first. Hydra Networks has an Affiliate program where if you signup through my referral link then I am entitled to %5 commission on all the gross revenue that is brought in through your efforts.
I have made the calculated decision that if I share this information with the first 10 qualified affiliates that sign up through my link, then I will profit more in the long run through the referral commissions than if I kept the information to myself.
