Today Yahoo announced that it would rebuff MSN 41 billion $$ takeover offer. I believe there are 3 simple reasons for this rebuff
- They want more Money
- They Want More Money
- They Want MORE MONEY
Yes - $31 a share is not enough for Jerry and the Gang to sell their souls to Redmond. I believe that this offer would have actually been successful has not Google got involved. Now Google may or may not be able to Buy Yoohoo due to Monopoly laws, however it definitely do something to C@@kBlock Redmonds bid.
The reason is that Adsense/Adwords is Google main source of profit and currently there are no viable competitors with MSN adCenter and Yahoo Search Marketing sweeping up the crumbs. If these two engines were to join, then the Google machine would have serious competition that would threaten to dig into it 30+ Billion dollar a year profits. (Remember that Adwords is Googles ONLY source of Revenue while Yahoo and MSN have many others)
So for Google they would do anything within possibility to block this acquisition.
But so what - What does this mean for all of us?
It means that Adsense Sucks and really needs some competition. That as internet marketers, we can only benefit from a MSN/Yahoo Merger because that would knock Google off their horse and force them to be more competitive in advertising rates and payouts.
I believe the takeover will happen soon and that Microsoft will have to pay dearly. As a result Google will also pay dearly and as Advertisers only we can benefit from the increased competition.
